Roger Schmidt: 'Bayer Leverkusen must learn'

Bayer Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt calls on his team to learn from their goalless draw with Benfica in the Champions League.

Bayer Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt has urged his players to learn from their 0-0 draw with Benfica in the Champions League.

The Germans had to settle for a second-place finish in Group C on Tuesday as their stalemate allowed Monaco to snatch top spot with a 2-0 victory over Zenit St Petersburg.

Despite failing to pick up the win, Schmidt believes that his team tried their best to clinch the spoils.

"It is a pity, a goal would have been enough for first place, but we want to learn from this game," he told the club's official website. "My team has tried everything, especially in the second half, to win the game."

Leverkusen return to Bundesliga action on Sunday when they host Borussia Monchengladbach.
