Steven Gerrard says that England showed character to draw against Ukraine.

England captain Steven Gerrard believes that his side showed character to earn a point against Ukraine on Tuesday night.

Having gone a goal down, a Frank Lampard penalty drew the hosts level late on in the game before Gerrard was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Despite dropping two points on home soil, the Three Lions skipper says that his side did well to draw level.

"We wanted to win this game. We're at home with our crowd behind us, so we're disappointed not to get the three points," says Gerrard.

"But having gone a goal down, I think we showed fantastic character and determination.

"We kept probing for the openings and, when the subs came on, I thought we created more chances. I thought we thoroughly deserved the point, if not a bit more on chances."

England remain unbeaten in their World Cup qualifying campaign.
