Liverpool did not deserve FA Cup knockout at Wolves – Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool went out of the FA Cup in the third round at Wolves.

Xherdan Shaqiri believes Liverpool did not deserve to tumble out of the FA Cup at Wolves.

The Reds lost 2-1 at Molineux on Monday, the second time in three seasons they have been knocked out by Wolves.

Ruben Neves' fine strike won it for the hosts after Divock Origi's equaliser had cancelled out Raul Jimenez's opener.

Shaqiri saw a free-kick brilliantly turned onto the post by goalkeeper John Ruddy and felt the visitors deserved a replay.

"Of course, we are disappointed after this game because we lost, first of all, but I think we didn't deserve this result because we tried to play football," he told the club's official website.

"We tried to come back. We tried everything until the end and you cannot say the attitude wasn't there until the last minute – we tried everything.

"Sometimes you need luck also and the free-kick was very unlucky. I saw the ball inside already, but it never went in.

"We obviously had a lot of young players and a lot of players in who didn't play for a long time.

"We wanted to win this game to go to the next round, but the FA Cup is like this, you lose the game and you are out.

"So, we close this game now and are looking forward to the weekend and the Premier League."

Wolves will travel to Shrewsbury or Stoke in the fourth round and goalkeeper Ruddy is eager to play again after just a third appearance this season.

He told his club's official website: "It's enjoyable.

"It's a nice feeling and it's another game that we can look forward to now, Shrewsbury or Stoke, so we look forward to their replay and see where we have to go.

"They're two fairly local teams as well, so it will be really nice and it's a good draw."
