Brendan Rodgers "astonished" by Malky Mackay's situation at Cardiff City

Brendan Rodgers admits that he is "astonished" by the situation facing manager Malky Mackay at Cardiff City.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he is "astonished" by the situation at Cardiff City for manager Malky Mackay.

The Scotsman has sparked a rift with owner Vincent Tan after he publicly claimed that he would like to add three new players to his squad in January.

Following on from his comments, the club issued a statement claiming that Tan was "extremely upset" because there are no funds available for the winter window.

According to The Times, Rodgers said today: "My only conclusion is that the club is being run by a businessman who knows nothing about football. The longer [Mackay's] there, the more he will build them up."

Cardiff will travel to Anfield on Saturday to face Liverpool in the Premier League.
