Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Vincent Kompany will not feature in Wednesday's Champions League encounter against Viktoria Plzen.
The Blues captain returned to first-team training this week after missing the last eight games with a thigh injury.
Despite the defender regaining his fitness, Pellegrini is not willing to risk him against the Czech side at the Etihad Stadium.
"Vincent began working with the squad this week," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "I think next week he will be fit to play, but he won't be involved tomorrow night."
City continue their Premier League campaign on Saturday when they entertain Swansea City.
