Manchester United reportedly turned down the opportunity to re-sign Dimitar Berbatov last month.
The Bulgarian, who scored 56 goals in 148 outings during his four-year stint at Old Trafford, is said to have offered his services to Louis van Gaal following his release by Monaco at the end of last season.
However, according to The Sun, at the age of 34, Van Gaal viewed Berbatov as being too old to make a significant impact in the Premier League.
Instead, United signed Berbatov's former Monaco teammate Anthony Martial for £36m, with the 19-year-old having gone on to score three goals in two Premier League outings.
As for Berbatov, he agreed a 12-month contract with Greek outfit PAOK.
