Fabio Coentrao has reportedly informed Real Madrid that he wants to return to Benfica this summer.
The Portuguese international moved to the Bernabeu from Benfica in 2011 with a reputation as one of the best young left-backs in European football.
He has struggled to make his mark in Spain, however, and has been forced to play second fiddle to Marcelo for much of his career at Real Madrid.
According to A Bola, Coentrao has attracted a host of interest this summer, but the defender only wants to return to Portugal with Benfica.
The 27-year-old has not played a part for Real Madrid in pre-season as he continues to recover from a minor injury.
