Half-Time Report: Martyn Waghorn earns Wigan Athletic half-time lead

Martyn Waghorn's first-half goal gives Wigan Athletic a 1-0 half-time lead over Nottingham Forest in the Championship.

A late strike from forward Martyn Waghorn has given Wigan Athletic a 1-0 half-time lead over Nottingham Forest in the Championship this afternoon.

Wigan were the first of the sides to create an opportunity, as Waghorn shifted the ball from his feet before unloading a long-range effort towards goal, which flew wide to the keeper's right.

Simox Cox wasted a good chance for the hosts after 10 minutes when the striker lashed wide from the centre of the box.

Emmerson Boyce produced a through-ball for Wigan striker Nicky Maynard, but the on-loan Cardiff frontman somehow dragged his shot wide of the target.

Chris McCann almost put Wigan ahead before the break, but his left-footed shot from the centre of the box was kept out of the bottom corner by Karl Darlow.

His miss didn't matter, however, as Waghorn converted from the centre of the box to give Wigan a 1-0 lead going into half time.
