Dirk Kuyt believes that Louis van Gaal's experience would be a major asset to Liverpool if he were to be appointed the club's new sporting director.
The Dutchman has been linked with the role, which is believed to be a similar job to the one performed by Damien Comolli.
With no manager and no director in place, Kuyt said that the Reds lack the structure needed to run the club efficiently.
"At the moment, Liverpool have no coach or technical director - each club benefits from structure," Kuyt told De Telegraaf. "You look at the Dutch national team and see that consistency and clarity are important.
"It is not usual for players to speak about candidates, but [Van Gaal] is a Dutchman, has a great track record and has the experience the club could put to good use."
Van Gaal was sacked as manager of Bayern Munich last year before taking on a role as director of Ajax.
