New Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is thought to be interested in bringing Sheffield United's Matthew Lowton to the club.

New Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is reportedly considering a bid for Sheffield United's promising full-back Matthew Lowton.

Lowton, who plays primarily at right-back but can also play in the centre of defence, has become a key member of United's first-team squad in the past two years.

The 23-year-old featured heavily in the Blades' ultimately unsuccessful drive for promotion last season, but his displays brought interest from a host of Championship clubs, as well as a couple of Premier League outfits.

United manager Danny Wilson admitted that some players may be tempted away from the club following their playoff final defeat to Huddersfield, but Lowton still has two years remaining on his contract, so Wilson is unlikely to let him go cheaply.

Lowton joined United in 2007, before being loaned out to Sheffield FC and Hungarian club Ferencvaros before forcing his way into the team at Bramall Lane.
