Sunderland are reportedly launching a second attempt to convince former Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar to move to the Stadium of Light.
The 30-year-old, who left Villa Park at the end of the season following the expiration of his contract, was believed to have snubbed an offer from the Black Cats.
Despite an initial rejection from the Spaniard, it is understood that Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is keen to secure the services of the defender and will carry out a second approach, according to the Northern Echo.
Cuellar made 123 senior appearances for Villa after four years at the Midlands club following a switch from Rangers in 2008.
