Juan-Martin del Potro has reached the third round of the Madrid Masters with a straight-sets victory over Mikhail Youzhny.
In a tight opening set, the hard-hitting Argentine found a break of serve at 2-2 before he went on to take it 6-4.
World number 34 Youzhny seemed to be in trouble at the start of the second as he lost his first service game, but the Russian broke back midway through the set.
Del Potro could have served out the match when he broke Youzhny to establish a 6-5 lead, but it was taken to a tie-break after he was broken for second time.
However, the world number 11 called upon all of his dynamic groundstrokes in the tie-break as he brushed his opponent aside 7-1.
