Andy Murray comes through Stanislas Wawrinka test

Andy Murray records his first win since back surgery with a 6-3 6-4 success over Stanislas Wawrinka in Abu Dhabi.

Andy Murray has defeated Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets to register his first victory since undergoing back surgery in September.

Murray had suffered a loss to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the Abu Dhabi exhibition event on Boxing Day as he looks to gain match practice before the start of the 2014 ATP Tour season.

However, the 26-year-old produced an improved performance on Friday to easily sweep aside his Swiss opponent by a 6-3 6-4 scoreline, who had got the better of him at the US Open earlier this year.

Murray will now travel to Qatar as he continues his preparations for the Australian Open, which begins on January 13.
