Rafael Nadal recorded a 6-1 6-3 victory over Roger Federer to claim the Rome International title in the Italian capital this afternoon.
The Spaniard dominated the opening set, breaking the Swiss number one on three occasions as he wracked up six straight games.
Federer was more positive in the second set and broke a nine-game winning streak for Nadal to reduce the arrears to 3-1 in the Spaniard's favour. He then served for the match at 5-1, but Federer broke to love.
It proved to only be a momentary change of domination, though, as Nadal responded eight minutes later to serve out for the title.
Having returned earlier this year from knee surgery, Nadal has now won 36 out of his 38 matches.
