Jerome Boateng targets Champions League redemption

Jerome Boateng admits that semi-finals losses in each of the last two seasons serve as motivation for Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has admitted that disappointing exits in the last two seasons will serve as motivation in the Champions League.

The Bundesliga champions have been knocked out of the competition at the semi-final stage in each of the last two years since triumphing over Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley in 2013, and Boateng is desperate to cross the hurdle in the new campaign.

"We're in the Champions League semi-finals almost every year," the World Cup winner told Goal.com ahead of Thursday's group stage draw. "But the way in which we have gone out was bitter.

"So, our goal is to get back in the final this season.

"The most important title for us is the Bundesliga but the Champions League is something special; a trophy that everyone wants to win."

Bayern host Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
