Novak Djokovic cruises through ATP World Tour Finals opener

Novak Djokovic drops just two games on his way to beating Kei Nishikori in the group stages of the ATP World Tour Finals.

World number one Novak Djokovic took just one hour and six minutes to record a 6-1 6-1 victory over Kei Nishikori in the opening group encounter of the ATP World Tour Finals at London's O2 Arena this afternoon.

The four-time winner and defending champion opened up a 3-0 lead in the first set and while Nishikori was then able to stem the tide with a hold of his own serve, it proved to be only some momentary restbite as Djokovic wrapped it up in 29 minutes.

When the pair met in the semi-finals of this event 12 months ago, Nishikori won the second set after he had surrendered the first to his Serbian opponent.

However, on this occasion from the moment that Djokovic broke at the first time of asking, Nishikori was on the back foot, which resulted in him winning just one more game.

The other two players in the group - Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych - will face each other this evening.
