Barcelona will move for Vincent Kompany if the Manchester City captain leaves the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season, according to a report.

Barcelona will reportedly move for Vincent Kompany if the Manchester City captain leaves the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.

Kompany, 32, will see his current deal with the Citizens expire at the end of the current campaign.

The Belgium international could move into the coaching set-up at the Etihad when he decides to retire as a player, while it is thought that initial talks over a new contract have taken place.

According to The Sun, however, Barcelona will attempt to convince the Belgium international to make the move to Camp Nou, with the Spanish champions keen to bring another central defender to the club.

Kompany has made 11 appearances for City this season and is closing in on 350 appearances for the club in total despite struggling with injuries in recent years.

The centre-back turned out for Anderlecht and Hamburger SV before making the move to City in 2008.
