Niall McGinn: 'Aberdeen looking forward to European football next season'

Niall McGinn says that Aberdeen are looking forward to taking part in European competition next season.

Aberdeen striker Niall McGinn has said that the team is looking forward to European football next season.

The Dons are currently second in the Scottish Premiership and look likely to enter the Europa League in the second qualifying round next season.

They entered the Europa League last season, defeating Latvian team Daugava Riga and Dutch side Groningen before being downed by Spain's Real Sociedad.

"We got that experience and it definitely makes us hungrier," McGinn told The Scotsman.

"We had those trips away to Groningen and Real Sociedad – those are the type of games you want to be involved in.

"It's always nice to go away to these nice places. We are professional footballers and at the end of the day we want to play in these big games – there is no bigger than these European games."

Aberdeen are currently eight points behind league leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.
