Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Arsenal

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's injury and suspension news ahead of their FA Cup third-round clash with Arsenal on Sunday.

Liverpool take a break from challenging for Premier League glory when they head to North London for a mouthwatering FA Cup third-round clash with Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds won their eighth and most recent title in the tournament in 2022 - overcoming Chelsea in the showpiece match - but they were dumped out by Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round last term.

However, Jurgen Klopp's side commence their bid for stardom sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table, beating Newcastle United 4-2 on Monday to open up a three-point advantage over Aston Villa.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with the Gunners, who have won an all-time high 14 FA Cup crowns.

Mohamed Salah

Status: Out
Type of injury: International
Possible return date: Unknown

After opening 2024 with two goals and an assist against Newcastle, the red-hot Mohamed Salah temporarily bids farewell to the Anfield faithful as he represents Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, which could see him miss up to seven games for the Reds.

Wataru Endo

Status: Out
Type of injury: International
Possible return date: Unknown

Likewise, Wataru Endo has been called up to represent Japan at the Asian Cup, and the midfielder - who has grown into an important player for Liverpool - may also be absent from domestic duty until the middle of February.

Dominik Szoboszlai

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Dominik Szoboszlai was forced off the pitch with 64 minutes gone against Newcastle and was evidently in pain as he trudged towards the dugout. Klopp confirmed after the game that the Hungarian had sustained a hamstring injury, and while he was none the wiser about how serious it was, an appearance at the Emirates is highly unlikely.

Kostas Tsimikas

Status: Out
Type of injury: Collarbone
Possible return date: Unknown

Kostas Tsimikas's Christmas celebrations were partially ruined by a broken collarbone sustained against Arsenal on December 23, and there is no telling when the Greek left-back might be fit again.

Ben Doak

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Ben Doak is currently working way back from a severe knee injury sustained while in action for the Under-21s last month, and there is no timeframe on the winger's return to first-team action either.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Speaking of serious knee injuries, Joel Matip's season is over due to the ACL rupture he sustained against Fulham in December, and with his contract also up in the summer, the Cameroonian could have been seen in Liverpool colours for the final time.

Andrew Robertson

Status: Out
Type of injury: Shoulder
Possible return date: February 4 (vs. Arsenal)

There was initial optimism that Andrew Robertson would be back in action in January after dislocating his shoulder on international duty, but Klopp has now poured fresh doubt on those hopes, claiming that the left-back is likely to spend another few weeks on the treatment table.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hip
Possible return date: January 21 (vs. Bournemouth)

Prior to the win over Newcastle, Klopp confirmed that long-term hip absentee Thiago Alcantara - who has been out since April - could be back in team training at some point this month, but there is no chance of him making his comeback on Sunday.

Stefan Bajcetic

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: Unknown

Stefan Bajcetic's growing body has been to blame for a troublesome calf injury, which has kept the Spanish starlet sidelined since the end of September, and he remains out of action while Liverpool take a highly cautious approach with his fitness.
