Arsenal could reportedly face competition from Everton for the signature of Schalke 04 striker Matthew Hoppe.
The 20-year-old struck six times in 22 Bundesliga appearances for the German outfit last term but could not prevent Schalke from suffering a dismal relegation to the second tier.
Hoppe is therefore due to play in the Bundesliga 2 in the 2020-21 season, but top-tier sides have reportedly been alerted to his availability after a stellar Gold Cup run with the USA.
According to journalist Grant Wahl, Hoppe is expected to end his association with Schalke in the current transfer window, and Arsenal and Everton have both touched base with the German side over a move.
The USA international now has under two years left to run on his contract with Schalke, who are supposedly prepared to accept a modest figure of £4m to sanction his sale.
Hoppe is now due to return to Schalke after starting four games for the USA at the Gold Cup, scoring one goal and one assist throughout the tournament and playing the full 120 minutes in the final against Mexico.
