Bournemouth defender Alan Smith calls Jack Wilshere "a massive name" and tips the on-loan Arsenal midfielder to make an impression with the Cherries this season.

Bournemouth defender Alan Smith has branded Jack Wilshere "a massive name" and tipped the on-loan Arsenal midfielder to make an impression with the Cherries this season.

Wilshere, who completed a surprise loan move to the Vitality Stadium on transfer deadline day, made his Bournemouth debut off the bench in their 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

Smith has revealed that the signing of the England midfielder on August 31 has 'given the dressing room a lift' after a difficult start to the new campaign.

"Jack's a massive name and I think a lot of people did not expect him to come here," Smith told Sky Sports News. "He's given the lads a bit of a lift and he's come on Saturday and performed well, so I'm sure if he starts on Saturday he's going to help us get a good result."

Bournemouth will travel to Manchester City in their next Premier League match on Saturday afternoon.
