Alan Pardew: 'Julian Speroni is a Crystal Palace icon'

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew describes goalkeeper Julian Speroni as a club "icon" after he signed a new contract at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has revealed that goalkeeper Julian Speroni will miss out against Swansea City this weekend, despite signing a new deal with the club.

Pardew has described Speroni as a club "icon" after he committed to a 12th season with the Eagles, but the Argentine has been informed that Wayne Hennessey will remain in goal for the final game of the season.

The 53-year-old told reporters: "Julian is an icon here. His testimonial is on Tuesday though, so he's not starting on Sunday."

Speroni has made 386 appearances for Palace since arriving at the club in 2004.
