Eibar claimed victory in their first ever match in Spain's top flight by defeating local rivals Real Sociedad at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua this evening.

The hosts began well and saw early chances go begging as Angel and Ander Capa missed the target.
Mikel Arruabarrena then tested Sociedad keeper Zubikarai as the Primera Division debutants edged ever nearer to the opening goal.
At the other end, Sergio Canales came closest for the visitors when his free kick was saved by Xabi Irureta.
Javi Lara scored the winning goal on the stroke of half time, and it was some strike as he rocketed a free kick from near the touchline into the top corner of the net.
Soon after the break Sociedad should have been level, but Agirretxe fluffed his lines from close range.

Carlos Vela and Inigo Martinez headed over late openings as Sociedad, who finished seventh last season, failed to equalise.
Having been promoted in both of the last two seasons, Gaizka Garitano's Eibar are currently sitting pretty in second position in La Liga.
