Chris Martin has scored twice before half time to put Derby County on course for their first win of the season against Preston North End.
The Lilywhites tried to get on the front foot in the early stages, but could only muster one effort from Will Keane in the opening 10 minutes, which was blocked by the Rams backline.
County, still seeking a first win of the season, also had an early chance through new signing Bradley Johnson, whose shot was deflected over the bar.
Soon after, Derby's other recent midfield recruit, Jacob Butterfield, tried his luck, but fired wide of the target.
However, Paul Clement's side took the lead on 23 minutes after Johnny Russell teed up Chris Martin, who coolly beat Jordan Pickford.
Derby doubled their advantage before the interval as Martin produced a curling free kick, which Pickford was unable to keep out.
