Real Madrid defender David Alaba did not suffer a serious knee injury against Sheriff Tiraspol, according to a report.

Real Madrid defender David Alaba reportedly did not suffer a potentially serious knee injury against Sheriff Tiraspol on Wednesday night.

The Austria international had to be replaced in the 65th minute of the Champions League contest, with Nacho entering the field as his replacement in the 3-0 success.

There were fears that Alaba could be facing a long period on the sidelines with the knee problem, but according to Marca, the defender only suffered 'a low-impact left knee sprain'.

The report claims that the Austrian did not damage any ligaments but is expected to miss Sunday's clash with Sevilla as a precaution.

The 29-year-old has been a key player for Real Madrid since his arrival from Bayern Munich over the summer, scoring twice and registering three assists in 17 appearances in all competitions.

Los Blancos will take on Sevilla, Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad in their next three league matches before hosting Inter Milan in the Champions League on December 7.
