Monaco have reportedly taken the first step towards signing Shkodran Mustafi from Arsenal by making an enquiry for the defender.
The German centre-back has struggled to win over supporters during his three years in North London and has been tipped to move on this summer.
Arsenal's £30m price tag has put teams off making an approach but, according to L'Equipe, Monaco have made contact with the Gunners in the hope of finding a middle ground.
With Laurent Koscielny pushing for a move away, however, and no other centre-backs expected to arrive before the transfer window closes next week, the report indicates that it is unlikely Arsenal will agree to sell at this stage.
Arsenal signed William Saliba from Saint-Etienne last week, but the youngster has been loaned back to the French side for the next 12 months.
