Barcelona are allegedly open to cashing in on defender Ronald Araujo for a fee in the region of £85m.

Barcelona are reportedly prepared to consider selling Ronald Araujo should they receive an offer that meets their valuation.

Back in 2018, the Catalan giants paid Boston River a fee that would eventually rise to €5.2m in order to sign the defender.

That has since proven to be one of the shrewdest pieces of business in Barcelona's history, Araujo going on to become one of the most highly-regarded defenders in world football.

A total of 142 appearances have been made in all competitions, with the 25-year-old scoring eight goals from either centre-back or right-back.

Araujo also has a La Liga title and Copa del Rey trophy to his name, but speculation persists that the Uruguay international will not remain at Camp Nou in the long term.

As well as having a contract until 2026, Barcelona's well-documented financial issues mean that they could greatly benefit from cashing in on Araujo for the right price.

The player himself has stressed that he remains "very happy" at Barcelona, yet has acknowledged that his future in Spain is "dependent" on the club.

According to ESPN, club officials are open to allowing Araujo to leave should they receive an offer in the region of €100m (£85.4m).

Barcelona are under pressure to make substantial cutbacks during the summer transfer window due to their reduced wage cap with La Liga, deficits needing to be made up before they can sign other players.

Other first-team players such as Raphinha are allegedly available for transfer, yet it is unclear whether Barcelona will be able to attract suitable bids for the Brazil international.

Araujo has no shortage of interest, though, with Bayern Munich and clubs from the Premier League having regularly been credited as admirers of his ability.

The report adds that "one big club" from England will be ready to make an approach should it emerge that Barcelona are definitely prepared to part ways with Araujo.

In January, it was claimed that Manchester United - who are known to remain in the market for defenders - had made an enquiry with regards to Araujo's availability.
