Tottenham Hotspur to fine Emmanuel Adebayor?

Tottenham Hotspur are about to hit Emmanuel Adebayor with a fine for his late return from the Africa Cup of Nations, according to reports.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor will reportedly face punishment after failing to return from the Africa Cup of Nations in time for this afternoon's match with Newcastle United.

The Togo star was set a 3pm Friday deadline to report back to North London following Togo's exit from the tournament last Sunday.

With Jermain Defoe out injured, Adebayor is Spurs' only fit striker, placing extra strain upon Andre Villas-Boas's squad. According to The Mirror, the 28-year-old will now be hit with a club fine.

Adebayor, who said that he is "physically exhausted" following his exertions in South Africa, has scored two goals in 14 league appearances this season.
