Huddersfield Giants appoint Andy Kelly as head of youth performance

Huddersfield Giants name Andy Kelly as their new head of youth performance.

Huddersfield Giants have appointed former Wakefield Trinity Wildcats coach Andy Kelly as their new head of youth performance.

The 53-year-old, who also led Ireland between 1998 and 2011, will start his new job in February after four years as a coach for the Rugby Football League in the North East.

"I am very excited about this opportunity with the Huddersfield Giants having watched them become one of the top five clubs in Super League," Eurosport quotes him as saying.

Giants managing director Richard Thewlis added: "Andy has built up an incredibly-impressive CV. His experience with the RFL in the north east and the outcomes of his work over the past few years are outstanding.

"He now comes into a more traditional heartland environment for elite rugby league and there is no doubt that he will do a superb job for our club and those youngsters who will be mentored by him over time."

Kelly was in charge of Wakefield from 1997 to 2000.
