Serena Williams has pulled out of the Rogers Cup in Canada next week for personal reasons.
The 36-year-old suffered the worst defeat of her career on Wednesday, losing 6-1 6-0 at the hands of Johanna Konta.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles winner has experienced an underwhelming year, and will now not feature in her next tournament.
"We are disappointed Serena will not be joining us," tournament director Eugene Lapierre told reporters.
"Fans were very much looking forward to seeing her in action."
Williams has one final chance to impress in a major tournament this year, with the US Open commencing on August 27.
