Gervinho: 'Table finish isn't important'

Gervinho says that it isn't important where Arsenal finish in the group stages of the Champions League.

Arsenal forward Gervinho has insisted that it isn't important where his side finish in their Champions League group.

The Gunners currently sit second in Group B behind German outfit Schalke 04, and know that a win against Olympiakos on Tuesday won't guarantee them top spot going into the knockout stages.

However, Gervinho is adamant that the team's form going into the last 16 is more crucial than their finishing position in the group.

"Whether you finish first or second, there will always be some big teams in the next round," said Gervinho. "If a team has qualified for the last 16, it's because there is a lot quality in it, so the further you go in the competition, the tougher it gets.

"Our objective is to finish top of the group, but if we finish second, it won't be the end of the world either. Look at Real Madrid, they are sure to finish second, so if you win your group, you could still face them in the last 16.

"The most important thing is to be in great form before playing in the knockout stages."

Arsenal travel to Olympiakos in their final Group B game on Tuesday.
