Villarreal hold Atletico Madrid to 1-1 draw

Villarreal grab a late equaliser through Ikechukwu Uche to draw 1-1 with Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

A late goal from Ikechukwu Uche was enough to earn Villarreal a 1-1 draw with visitors Atletico Madrid in La Liga this evening.

Atletico took the lead in the opening minutes of the game when Juanfran found space to deliver a cross into the box, which was accidentally headed in by Villarreal's Mario Gaspar.

The hosts pushed for a leveller throughout the first half, but were unable to muster a decent chance right until the final stages when Gaspar met a cross of Jonathan Pereira, but his effort flew wide of goal.

Pereira was involved again just after the break as the Villarreal attacker collected possession outside the box, before turning to fire a shot that whistled past the post with the goalkeeper scrambling.

Villarreal found their equaliser with 10 minutes remaining as Uche did well to turn home Jeremy Perbet's low cross into the back of the net.
