Bayern Munich chairman Uli Hoeness has admitted that his side wish to add a new striker and defender in January.
Bayern were frustrated in their efforts to sign Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marco Reus, who joined Borussia Dortmund, but Hoeness has insisted that they have a stronger squad than their rivals.
"Ultimately, Bayern Munich still have a better quality team than Dortmund. We would rather try to find a central defender. Breno still has a chance to return, but if not, an alternative is needed," Hoeness told sueddeutsche.de.
"Our biggest problem is what would we do if Mario Gomez got injured? We are going to need a real star, someone who would be good enough to play for Barcelona or Manchester United."
Bayern are currently top of the Bundesliga, with action due to return on January 20.
