Braga up to fourth after Maritimo mauling

Braga rise to fourth in the Primeira Liga following a 5-1 thrashing of Maritimo in Monday night's clash at the Estadio Municipal de Braga.

Braga have climbed to fourth in the Primeira Liga following a 5-1 thrashing of Maritimo in Monday night's clash at the Estadio Municipal de Braga.

Serbian Nikola Stojiljkovic grabbed his side's first two goals in the first half, although Dyego Sousa halved the deficit in the 37th minute.

Rafa extended the hosts' two-goal advantage on the hour, before Joao Diogo was sent off for a hard tackle in the box that also prompted the referee to award Braga a penalty.

Even though Rui Fonte missed his spot-kick conversion, Maritimo all but destroyed their chances of getting something from the game when Raul was shown a second yellow card in the 67th minute.

The game was finally put to bed when Fonte made amends for his failed penalty by rifling home two minutes before the end of the match.
