Brazilian legend Socrates is in intensive care at a hospital in Sao Paolo.
The 57-year-old was taken to the Albert Einstein hospital on Friday suffering from gastrointestinal bleeding.
Doctors have said that the bleeding was caused by high blood pressure in the vein that carries blood from the digestive system to the liver.
The midfielder won 60 caps for his country, playing in both the 1982 and 1986 World Cups.
