Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho expects Jose Mourinho to improve the club's fortunes next season.

Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho has insisted that Jose Mourinho will improve the club next season.

The Portuguese recently returned to Stamford Bridge for a second spell after leaving in 2007.

"He is a special coach for me. Last year I thought he was not a happy one but this is the right move for him," Carvalho, who played under Mourinho at both Chelsea and Real Madrid, told the club's official website.

"He has the respect of everybody at Chelsea, the fans love him and the players know how he works. He is a great coach and gets results. Chelsea can improve their consistency in the league and I think he will do that."

Carvalho recently joined Monaco on a free transfer following three seasons at Madrid.
