Barcelona are reportedly prepared to prioritise a deal for Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta this summer, despite the Spaniard having recently activated a new contract.

Barcelona are reportedly committed to getting a deal for Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta over the line this summer.

For a number of months, speculation has persisted regarding the future of the Spaniard, whose contract was due to expire at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

However, reports in Spain have confirmed that the Blues legend has recently activated a 12-month extension having made a set number of appearances this campaign.

Nevertheless, the same outlet says that Barcelona are still prepared to do all that they can to secure the services of the versatile defender ahead of 2022-23.

The report suggests that the Catalan giants and Azpilicueta both favour negotiating terms where he can still move to Camp Nou, ending a 10-year stint with Chelsea in the process.

Azpilicueta will allegedly request that he be allowed to leave Chelsea on a free as recognition for his commitment over the past decade.
