Chelsea have reportedly attempted to clarify whether they are able to activate a release clause in the contract of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.
Throughout the first half of the campaign, speculation persisted regarding an eventual move to a bigger club for Werner, who has starred in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season.
However, there have been varying claims regarding a potential release clause, said to range anywhere between £25m and £52m.
Having identified the Germany international as a top target, The Telegraph claims that Chelsea have asked questions about the 23-year-old's availability.
Regardless of the figure required, the Blues may be prepared to push through a deal in order to win a hotly-contested race for the player's signature.
Werner has netted 23 times from 24 outings in all competitions this season.
