Derby County's summer signing Johnny Russell has revealed that the club have set themselves the target of reaching the Championship playoffs next season.

The Rams struggled to pick up maximum points away from Pride Park last year and as a result were only able to finish 10th in the standings.

However, Russell, who recently joined from Dundee United, believes that Derby have a decent chance of challenging for promotion to the Premier League this time around.

"Without wanting to shout about it we've got a chance of doing well," he told The People. "The top six is our target and we can have a real go."

Derby open up their campaign next Sunday with a home match against Blackburn Rovers.
