Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he is "excited" by the attacking players in England's squad for the start of the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.
Roy Hodgson's side beat Norway 1-0 in a friendly at Wembley earlier this week ahead of their qualifier in Switzerland on Monday.
The Queens Park Rangers defender, who retired from international duty in 2013, told BBC Sport: "I wouldn't want to play against that England squad. I'm excited about the frontline, young, hungry talents who should flourish within a system.
"Look at the 'golden generation'. Why didn't they succeed? Partly it was down to us, but maybe we weren't set up the right way."
Ferdinand earned 81 caps during his England career.
