Championship side Leeds United have reportedly made Joey Barton one of their major summer transfer targets.
The 32-year-old is currently a free agent following his release by Queens Park Rangers last week.
It has been suggested that the midfielder is eager to remain in the Premier League, which is said to have captured the attention of West Bromwich Albion.
However, Leeds owner Massimo Cellino is also keen and will offer the one-cap England international a £1m-a-year contract to sign on at Elland Road, according to The Sun.
Barton, who started his professional career with Manchester City, has also had spells with Newcastle United and Marseille.
