Joe Allen focusing on positives from Liverpool title near miss

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen says that narrowly missing out on the Premier League title shows just how far the club has progressed in recent years.

Joe Allen has admitted that he has taken plenty of experience away from Liverpool's Premier League near miss last season.

The Welsh midfielder, who made the move to Anfield from Swansea City in 2012, was part of the Reds squad that came within a few points of the title in May.

Despite the pain of missing out to Manchester City, Allen says that there are plenty of positives to take away.

"It shows how far we came in a short space of time," the 24-year-old told Wales Online. "To be disappointed not to lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the season is incredible when you think about it.

"You're always going to look back with a little bit of disappointment when you come so close, but I think the overriding story was we went right to the end and gave a fantastic account for ourselves and I've gained a lot from the experience."

Allen is currently on international duty with Wales.
