Louis van Gaal confirms Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial fitness

Manchester United duo Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial overcome illness and injury respectively to be included in tomorrow's squad to face PSV Eindhoven.

Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial have been passed fit for Manchester United's upcoming Champions League group encounter against PSV Eindhoven.

The attacking duo were absent from the weekend's 2-1 win away at Watford, with Rooney sidelined by illness, while youngster Martial picked up a foot complaint on international duty with France.

However, their presence at today's training session fuelled speculation that both players would be ready to feature against the Dutch champions at Old Trafford tomorrow night.

Manager Louis van Gaal has since confirmed that the pair are available for selection, although he added that neither is guaranteed to start the game.

"It is not automatic [that they will start]. It is always a decision of the manager. I will always compare players with each other and I take into account how fit they are. Rooney and Martial have show their fitness on the training ground," he told reporters.

Van Gaal also revealed that Marouane Fellaini has overcome a knock to return to the squad, but Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Phil Jones will all be absent.
