Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has defended manager Jose Mourinho from recent criticism by insisting that he "knows what he is doing".
Recent reports have suggested that the United squad have become increasingly frustrated by the manager's demeanour and underwhelming start to the new season, which has seen them lose two and win two of their opening four games.
Asked about Mourinho at a press conference following United's 2-0 victory at Burnley on Sunday, Matic said: "He knows what he is doing for sure. You probably know that also. It's good for us also. He is one of the best managers in the world, you know what he won in his career so that shows you everything.
"I think he is dealing very well with the pressure. That is why he is here in Manchester United. I don't see any difference."
On rivals Liverpool, who sit top of the table after a 100% start, Matic added: "They also have to win all games, and I think that's impossible. Someone needs to lose to drop the points and it's still too early to say something. We will see in March where we are because in March you can see who is fighting for the title, who is not, who is fighting to be in the top four. It is still too early."
United are next in action at Watford, who also have made a 100% start to the season, after the international break.
