Manchester United are reported to be considering the option of offering Wayne Rooney an extension to his contract at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old, whose current deal expires in 2015, endured a tumultuous summer transfer window, as Chelsea twice failed with bids to prise him from the Red Devils.
Reports have suggested that he was pining for an exit after nine years with United, but a source close to the club has told The Telegraph that a new contract could be in the works.
"The manager and coaching staff have created a new environment," said the source. "There is no rush to talk about a new contract but let's say if, in January, there is a conversation and we could lock [Rooney] in well into his 30s, then we would do that."
Rooney is currently out of action with a gash on his head suffered in training.
