Report: Wayne Rooney to sign new Manchester United contract

Wayne Rooney is close to agreeing a new contract to stay at Manchester United until 2018, a report says.

Wayne Rooney is close to agreeing a new contract at Manchester United that will tie him to the club until 2018, according to a report.

The striker has been consistently linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but the new deal will put an end to interest from Chelsea and Arsenal.

Negotiations between player and club have been ongoing this month, The Telegraph reports, and United are prepared to give the England international a £300,000-a-week pay packet.

Rooney has 18 months left on his current agreement, but reportedly told his representatives to open talks.

The former Everton player has nine league goals so far this season.
