Andy Murray has crashed out of the Monte Carlo Masters after being comprehensively outplayed by Stanislas Wawrinka.
The Scot, who was looking for his second Masters title in a row, never got going against his Swiss opponent, who quickly secured a 6-1 6-2 victory.
Murray won his first service game of the match, but Wawrinka soon took control, breaking Murray three times on the way to taking the first set.
The world number two competed well at the start of the second, with the first five games of the set going to serve, but Wawrinka struck in the sixth game to edge closer to the win.
Wawrinka soon brought up two match points on Murray's serve, and although the US Open champion saved the first, he netted on the second to hand his opponent a passage through to the quarter-finals.
