British number one Andy Murray has insisted that Wimbledon has proved that it is the "biggest" tournament in tennis following the All England Club's announcement of development plans.
It has been confirmed that the prize money from the elite competition will rise by 40%, with winners from the men's and women's singles events netting £1.6m each.
Murray wrote on Twitter: "If it wasn't official before it is now... @wimbledon is officially the biggest and tennis tournament bar none.
"Always looking out for the best interests of our sport.... future plans for the club look incredible... As has always been the case @wimbledon continue to lead our sport in the right direction... right from the front... #proudmember."
It has also been announced that a retractable roof will be built on court number one by the 2019 tournament.
