Japan's number one Kei Nishikori booked his place in round three of the Paris Masters at the expense of Benoit Paire this evening.
The first set proved to be an even contest, with neither player able to find a decisive break of serve.
However, in the resultant tie-breaker Nishkori claimed the initiative early with a break, before pressing home his advantage with a 7-2 success.
The second set proved to be a little more straightforward for world number 15 Nishikori, who broke his French opponent on two occasions.
He then proceeded to hold his remaining service games to secure his passage through to the next round 6-2.
The 22-year-old will now take on either Victor Hanescu or Gilles Simon for a place in the quarter-finals.
