England captain Steven Gerrard heaps praise on Arsenal and Three Lions midfielder Jack Wilshere.

England captain Steven Gerrard has claimed that Jack Wilshere will emerge into "a top player for England and for Arsenal" if he can stay clear of injury.

Wilshere has been one of Arsenal's star players this season, despite spending more than 14 months on the sidelines following a persistent ankle injury.

"If Jack Wilshere stays fit he has the capacity to be a top player for England and for Arsenal. The manager, myself and all the other players in the dressing room are excited to have him back," Gerrard told reporters.

"He has had a very disappointing time with injuries, and I felt for him because I have been there myself. Fingers crossed that he can avoid injuries in future, and can get a run of games."

Gerrard will skipper England in Wednesday's international friendly against Brazil at Wembley.
